Browser extension privacy.

Last updated 19 October 2026

This page covers the recomention extension for Chrome. It checks whether AI crawlers can read the site in your open tab, and fills drafts you approved into your own page for you to send. The main privacy policy covers the website, accounts and reports.

What the extension reads

Nothing, until you click its icon. When you then press Check this site, it fetches four public files from the site in your open tab: robots.txt, llms.txt, the sitemap and the home page. The requests go from your browser straight to that site, without your cookies for it, and the results are worked out inside the extension.

It does not read the page you are looking at, your other tabs or your browsing history. It runs nothing in the background and no script on pages you have not asked it to check.

Filling a draft. On Reddit, X or LinkedIn, if you are signed in to recomention.com, the extension shows the drafts you approved in your dashboard for posting by hand. When you press Fill, it puts that text into the box you clicked into on the page, and does nothing else there: it never presses send, submits a form or posts on your behalf. You read it and send it yourself. It does not read what is already on that page.

What it sends to us

The public AI rankings list. When you open the extension it downloads the same list the rankings pages show and looks for the open site in it on your device. The request does not say which site you are on. The list is kept for a day so it is not downloaded on every click.

Your report list, if you are signed in. If you are signed in to recomention.com in this browser, the extension asks the site for the list of reports on your account, using the sign-in you already have. If you save an API key instead, it asks the public API with that key. Either way it gets your whole list and picks out reports for the open site on your device, so the request does not say which site you are on.

Drafts, and that one was filled. On those sites it asks recomention.com for your approved drafts with your existing sign-in. After a fill it tells the site which draft was filled and on which site (for example www.reddit.com), so your dashboard can show it. A fill is not recorded as sent. An API key is never used for drafts.

These are ordinary web requests, so our hosting sees the usual request details, such as an IP address, as it does for any visit to the site. The extension adds no identifier of its own.

What it stores

Two things, both in this browser profile's extension storage, never synced and never sent anywhere else: the API key, if you paste one, and the day-old copy of the rankings list. Remove saved API key deletes the key; uninstalling the extension deletes both. Check results are not stored. They disappear when the popup closes.

What it never does

No analytics, advertising, tracking or fingerprinting. No sale or transfer of data to anyone. Nothing is sent to an AI provider, and pressing the button costs nothing. The full report, which asks AI engines about your product, is a separate purchase on the website.

Our use of information the extension handles follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

Permissions it asks for

Active tab: access to the tab you clicked the icon on, for that moment only. Scripting: to make the four requests from inside that tab, so they reach the site you are on and nothing else, and to put an approved draft into the box you chose when you press Fill. Storage: the API key and the rankings copy described above. Access to recomention.com: so your existing sign-in reaches your report list and your approved drafts. It asks for no access to any other site.

Links out

The report button, the rankings link and the sign-in link open the website in a normal tab. From there the main privacy policy applies.
